UC Santa Barbara's Jeff Menzel had nine kills and 12 points, but it wasn't enough as the United States men's volleyball team dropped a 25-15, 23-25, 25-19, 25-23 decision to Thailand on Wednesday at the World University Games in Shenzhen, China.

Menzel, who led UCSB to the NCAA National Championship match in 2011, had two blocks and a service ace to go along with his nine kills.

The loss dropped the American team to 3-2 in pool play, third place.  They will now compete for 9th-16th place beginning on Friday.
