SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara's Scott Anderson was the winner of the shot put on the first day of the Big West Track & Field Championships last Friday, earning him the UCSBgauchos.com Athlete of the Week.
Held at UC Irvine's Anteater Stadium, Anderson picked up his first career conference title with a new personal best of 59-4.25 (18.09m), which came on his final attempt. He improves his UCSB shot put record and earned 10 team points for the Gauchos. Anderson also competed in the discus at the championships, finishing fourth in the event at 162-5 (49.50m).
Anderson previously set a school record during the Cal Poly dual meet over the weekend of May 2 when he threw a 58-8.50 (17.89m), which improved upon his previous record by six inches, and he was the conference leader heading into the Big West Championships.
