Day 1 is now completed at Cal St. Northridge of the Big West Championships Decathlon competitions. For the Men, Kent Centers jumped into his first Decathlon scoring 3,312 points, good for 8th place. However, only 207 points separates him from 4th place in what should be a close battle on Day 2 for the 4th-6th positions.

Centers, began with the 100m Dash where he sprinted to a 11.90. Out on the Long Jump runway, hoping to jump a few more inches, Centers got out over the 20 foot mark going 20-07.25. One of his weaker events, the Shot Put had him toss a 30-09.75 mark in his first Shot Put Competition as a Gaucho.

Then in his signature event, the High Jump, Centers cleared a seasonal best 6-08.25 to tie the best jump of the afternoon and then just missed a regional qualifying height of 6-10.75. To finish off Day 1, Centers sprinted around the oval at Cal St. Northridge in 52.48 in the 400m Dash.

He will enter Day 2 of the Decathlon only 207 points behind 4th. Three of his best events remain with his first being the 110m High Hurdles where he has a seasonal best 15.85. The third event of the afternoon, after the Discus Throw, will have him go for over fourteen feet in the Pole Vault, while after the Javelin Throw he hopes to run a sub 4:30 in the 1500m run, the final event of the Decathlon.
