Gauchos Head to Big West Combined Event Championships and Oxy Invite

Tomorrow three UCSB multi-event athletes will head to the Big West Combined Event Championships hosted by UC Irvine's Anteater Track. The competition will begin on Friday and conclude on Saturday. This meet will count as part of the Big West Championship series and points earned this weekend will carry over to the main portion of the meet which will take place on May 13-14 in Irvine, Calif.

Derek Masterson and Josh Codding will compete in the Decathlon and Maureen Ajoku will compete in the Heptathlon. Other athletes will head to Pasadena, Calif. to compete in the Occidental Invitational in preparation for the Big West Conference Championships.

Last Weekend
Both the men and women's teams defeated the Mustang's at the Cal Poly dual meet last weekend which has never been done before. The women scored 118 points to Cal Poly's 81 and the men scored 102 to Cal Poly's 100 and the women totaled 118 points over the Mustang's 81.

Highlights of the meet include Mauren Ajoku tying the school record in the long jump at 19'4.75" and Jean Lightfoot's triple win in the shot put at 46'10.75" , hammer throw at 172'10" and broker her personal record in the discus by throwing 163'3". Beidi Beer ran 10.68 in the 100m dash and Ryan Martin ran 47.13 in the 400m.
