UCSB heads to Cal Poly Invitational This Weekend

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.- This weekend, UCSB heads to neighboring rival Cal Poly for the Cal Poly Invitational. The schools expected to compete in this meet include CSU Bakersfield, Fresno State, Pepperdine and Cal Poly.

On Friday April 1, the Women and Men's hammer throw will take place followed by the rest of the track and field events on Saturday.

Stanford Invitational Last weekend, the Gauchos had competitors in the Cal/Nevada Meet, Westmont Classic, and Stanford Invitational. Amanda Moreno won the women's 5k run at Stanford Invite with a time of 16:16:53 to earn her Big West Honors and the title of Big West Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. Julian deRubira finished eighth in the men's 5k run in a time of 14:11.90 and making him the second fastest man in the Big West this season.

Westmont Collegiate Classic Maureen Ajoku won the women's heptathlon at the Westmont Classic for a total of 4,590 points and ahead of second place by more than 800 points. Derek Masterson also took home first in the Decathlon with a score of 7,159 points to put him in the running for the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in May.

Cal/Nevada Championships At the Cal/Nevada Championships, several Gauchos had some top times and marks to land them at the top of the current Big West results list. Jean Lightfoot earned third in the shot put with a throw of 47'9.75" for her personal best this season. Beidi Beer ran 10.55 in the men's 100m dash for his personal best and top time in the Big West. Ryan Martin ran 1:47:93 for second place in the 800m run and Jordan Scott ran 47.98 for third in the 400m dash to move him ninth onto the Gaucho all-time 400m list. Juan Paredes finished strong in the 5,000m run in 14:39.07 to take second place.
