Gaucho Track Inks Junior College State Champion

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Head coach Pete Dolan has announced the arrival of Crystal Reed to the UCSB cross country and track & field program. Reed will be eligible to compete immediately for the Gauchos in the 2009 track season.
Reed comes to UCSB via Orange Coast Community College, where she won two consecutive California State Championships in cross country. She was also a two-time conference champion in cross country, and in the 2008 track season she was conference champion in the 800m, 1500m, 5000m, and 10,000m.
Prior to attending Orange Coast College, Reed was an all-state runner for Fountain Valley High School of the CIF Southern Section. She captured three consecutive Sunset League championships in cross country from 2003-2005, and was honored with all-county recognition from 2002-2005 and all-state recognition from 2003-2005.
Reed's top time in cross country was 17:09 on the Mt. SAC course. She also competed at Nike Team Nationals and took ninth place individually.
In track, Reed was league champion of both the 1600m and 3200m in three consecutive seasons, from 2004-2006. She was named the Sunset League MVP all three years, and additionally was named to the all-county team.
Reed will enter the 2009 track season with personal bests of 17:01 in the 5000m and 36:20 in the 10,000m. She plans to major in film and media studies at UCSB.
