With some athletes competing in Austin, TX another squad of Gauchos traveled to Fullerton, CA for the Titan Twilight held at Cal St. Fullerton. A tune-up for the big meets that follow in April and May, the Gauchos left with some good marks.
Out on the track, on the Men's side, Loren Bland (Jr.) in what was a very breezy evening won the 5000m by over fourteen seconds for his first collegiate win and a personal best of 14:52.76. Bland had a two-mile personal best of 9:46 out of high school and after some injuries at UCSB his first two years he has been having a phenomenal junior season for himself and the Gauchos. In the 1500m, the Gauchos swept the top three spots with Art Avitia (Jr.) coming up for the win.
For the women, Bethany Nickless (Fr.) in the 5000m set another personal best this season taking off seventeen seconds this time around finishing in second with a time 17:26.35. Laura Zung (Jr.) in the 1500m also set a personal best racing to third place in 4:48.53. In the women's 800m, Diana Joyner (So.), a hurdler for the Gauchos ran a six second personal best finishing in second with a time of 2:17.39.
In the hurdles, Stella Hall (So.) ran a seasonal best in the 100m Hurdles with a time of 15.46. Danielle DeBeaubien (Jr.) also ran a seasonal best of 15.80. At the 400m Hurdle distance, Hall ran another seasonal best of 63.50.
In the field events, Ryan Donnelly (So.) jumped a seasonal best of 22-11.25 in the long jump to place 2nd. In the men's shot put, Scott Anderson (Fr.) won the event by tossing the stone 52-01.75. Anderson also set a personal best in the Discus, throwing it 139-09. In the Hammer Throw Shaun Tolnay (Jr.) won the meet with a mark of 164-01. On the women's side out on the field, Rachel Elbinger won the high jump with a seasonal best mark of 5-02.25.
