Javier Olivas is in his first year as a member of Pete Dolan's UCSB Track and Field coaching staff. He will be responsible for coaching the pole vault, all throwing events and Decathletes as well.
Olivas came to UCSB after serving a graduate assistant at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. While at UMES, he also oversaw the pole vaulters and all throwers for indoor and outdoor track and field. In addition, Olivas served as the director of strength and conditioning for the men's and women's teams at Eastern Shore.
While at UMES, Olivas coached two USA Junior National Qualifiers, three Regional Qualifiers, one conference record setter, six conference champions and 21 all-conference performers.
Before his two-year stint at UMES, Olivas competed at Texas A&M University. As a collegian, he qualified for nationals in the throwing events. When he was a senior, the Aggies finished fifth at the NCAA Championships.
