High School -- A 1600m specialist for Edison High School, Hayes ran a personal best 4:17.50 at the CIF Southern Section Division II Finals to grab a 3rd place finish. At the Sunset League finals as a senior, he would take home a pair of runner-up finishes in both the 800m and 1600m.
