Finley broke a 34 year-old record in the pole vault by clearing 17'2.50" and tying for first place at the UCSD Triton Invitational...He is the first Gaucho to clear 17 feet in the pole vault and eclipsing the previous record by five inches set in 1976...Named Big West Athlete of the Week following his performance at the UCSD Triton Invite to place him 12th in the West and 20th overall in the NCAA pole vault performance lists. 2009

Finley took third place at Conference with a clearance of 16'6.75" (5.05m), good for All-Big West honors...5.05 was the highest bar cleared at the meet, but Finley was placed third based on misses at earlier heights...He currently sits tied for third on the UCSB all-time marks list...Also cleared 16'6.75" at the Cal-Nevada Championships at UCLA, which placed him fifth, and at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific, which placed him second.
