deRubia ran the 5000m at the Mt. SAC meet in 14:03.38 for third place and third on the Gaucho all-time list...Won the 3000m steeplechase on the first day of the Big West Championships by running 8:52.57...Qualified for the 3000m steeplechase final by breaking his own UCSB record with a time of 8:43.62 and finishing fifth overall to advance to the NCAA finals...Earned All-American status with a ninth place finish in the steeplechase with a time of 8:49.34 at the NCAA Championships...Placed 18th at the U.S. Track and Field Championships with a time of 9:02.56 in the 3000m steeplechase.

2009
Redshirted the 2009 season. Had unattached times of 8:55 in the steeplechase, 14:12 in the 5000m, and 3:52 in the 1500m.

2008
Ran the steeplechase-5000m double at Conference, taking fourth in the steeple at 9:14.41 and sixth in the 5000m at 15:21.34...Set a personal best in the 5000m at the Stanford Invitational, running 14:38.37...Clocked his best steeplechase time at the Cal Poly dual meet, where he ran a 9:13.60...Was third in the steeplchase at the Cal Nevada Invitational, running 9:25.98.

2007
deRubira ran the 5000m at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational in 14:43.61, which is unofficially a freshman school record...Competed in the 5000m at the Big West Championships...Ran the 1500m at the Claremont Classic with a time of 3:58.83...Posted a time of 9:36.14 in the steeplechase at the Cal-Nevada meet, which was good for second place in his heat and third place overall...Took third in the 3000m at the Cal Poly dual meet.

High School
Another great recruit out of Santa Margarita High School (Michael Powers, 2001 & Brandon von Guenthner, 1998) for the Gauchos, deRubira was ranked 21st at 3200m in the state of California in 2006 with a 9:15.86, and 41st at 1600m with a 4:18.75. He won the Orange Country Championship 3200m title, and at the Div. III Southern Section Championships placed fourth in the 1600m and tied for second at 3200m. He holds high school records in the 1600m and 3200m, and was part of the distance medley relay record-holding squad.

Personal
Lettered not only in cross country and track & field, but also in soccer at Santa Margarita...Majoring in environmental studies at UCSB...Enjoys surfing, making art, and riding bicycles.
