Nelson, a 6'6 transfer decathlete from Texas Tech will be a key addition to the Gauchos multi-event corps. As a freshman at Texas Tech, Nelson placed sixth at the Big-12 Championships in the decathlon with a score of 6773. Indoor he set a 60m hurdle best of 8.43 at the Texas A & M Quad. Was named to the All Big 12 Conference Track and Field Rookie Team. 

As a prep athlete at Del Norte HS, Nelson qualified for the CIF State Championships in the 300m hurdles and 110m hurdles. He had prep bests of 38.40 and 14.59 in the hurdle events respectively. After his high school season, he competed in the USATF Imperial Championships, winning the prep decathlon with a score of 6750. He has bests of 10.95 in the 100m and 49.16 in the 400m.   

Parents are Scott and Lori Nelson...Has one sibling, Conner...Majoring in Economics at UCSB...Aspires to work in the NFL...Enjoys Football, Hiking and Traveling.
