  • Martin Earns Bronze Medal at Pan American Games

    TORONTO – Representing the United States at the Pan American Games, UCSB alumnus Ryan Martin took the bronze medal in the 800-meters on Thursday.

    UCSB Director of Track and Field/XC Pete Dolan is proud to officially welcome in 22 student-athletes who have signed NLI's to compete as Gauchos for the 2015-2016 academic year. Extending their recruiting borders to the Northwest, the Gauchos welcome in athletes from Oregon and Washington to compliment a strong class of in-state talent.

    Looking back on 2014-15, it was another historic and memorable year for Pete Dolan and his cross country and track and field programs. The UCSB men started the year by winning the Big West Cross Country Championship with the fifth lowest score in conference history. On the track, the Gauchos capped the year with three honorable mention All-Americans. Here is a look at the records and milestones the Gauchos reached this past year.
  • Track Opens Day One at NCAA's; Full Athlete Resumes
    June 10, 2015
    The UCSB Gauchos will open day one of the NCAA Championships Wednesday with Albert Hughes and Thomas Gore-Schreck set to see action in the long throws. Hughes will step into the circle as the first thrower of the hammer competition at 1:30pm. Gore-Schreck will throw third in the first flight which is scheduled to go off at 5pm inside Oregon's Historic Hayward Field.
  • Hughes and Gore-Schreck Named Honorable Mention All-Americans at NCAA Championships

    Two UCSB Gauchos earned Honorable Mention All-American awards for their performances at the NCAA Championships Wednesday afternoon. Albert Hughes placed 20th in the hammer throw, recording the third best throw of his career. Thomas Gore-Schreck placed 18th in the javelin, up four spots from his pre-championship ranking.
  • Gauchos Send Three to Eugene

    The UCSB track and field teams have qualified three athletes for the NCAA Championships, which will be held in Eugene, Ore. June 10-13. Albert Hughes and Thomas Gore-Schreck, two throwers from the men's team advanced out of the NCAA West Regional in the hammer and javelin, respectively. From the women's team, Jessica Johnson will represent the Gauchos in the collegiate grand finale, running her specialty- the 400m.
  • Gore-Schreck Advances to NCAA's in the Javelin

    UCSB senior Thomas Gore-Schreck advanced to the NCAA Championships by placing 11th at the NCAA West Regional with a throw of 221'2. Gore-Schreck will join Albert Hughes and Jessica Johnson in Eugene, OR. at Hayward Field for the NCAA Final, June 10-13.
  • Johnson and Tsolis Advance in Rounds on Day One at NCAA West Regional

    On a humid day in Austin, two Gauchos advanced through the qualifying rounds by virtue of strong finishing kicks and aggressive race tactics. After morning rain delays, the evening section went off without a hitch, especially for the first two UCSB athletes who breezed through their heats. Competing in a field of 48 athletes, the preliminary round of racing cuts the field in half, advancing 24 athletes to the semi where only 12 will advance to the NCAA Final in Eugene, Or.
  • Eleven Gauchos Head to Austin for NCAA First Round

    UCSB will send a group of eleven athletes to Austin, TX for the first round of NCAA qualifying this weekend. The Gauchos are scheduled to compete five newly crowned Big West Champions at the University of Texas in search of a coveted top-twelve finish and a spot in the NCAA Final. Four UCSB athletes enter the meet with a top-twenty ranking in the NCAA West Region.
  • Emde, Gore-Schreck and Johnson Win Gold; Men Second, Women Fourth at Big West Championships

    A twenty-one point javelin performance, highlighted by Thomas Gore-Schreck's win, led the Gaucho men to a second place team showing at the Big West Championships. Event wins by Jessica Johnson in the 400m and Jessica Emde in the high jump helped the Gaucho women hold on to their fourth place position from day one all the way to the end.

    Sparked by Bryce Rausa's gritty performance in the 3,000m steeplechase and in the 1,500m, the UCSB men hold the lead after the first day of the Big West Championships. Three Gauchos won individual event titles and three others captured Silver medals in an impressive first day for both squads.
  • Excitement Grows for Big West Championships

    After eight months of preparation, the UCSB Gauchos will send their final 32 men's and women's team members to the Big West Championship in search of individual and team glory. UC Riverside will serve as the host for the eight men's and nine women's conference teams. The meet will take place on Friday and Saturday, with track prelims set to begin Friday afternoon.

    Two UCSB athletes picked up Big West Athlete of The Week honors for their performances at the Occidental Invitational. Andrew Farkas, a UCSB junior from La Jolla, Ca., for his 800m clip and Tori Tsolis, a UCSB junior from San Jose, Ca., for her 1,500m personal best.
  • Darion Williams Wins Big West Decathlon Title
    May 10, 2015
    Trailing after the first day of competition, Darion Williams used a strong day two to claim the Big West decathlon title at UC Riverside. This was the third decathlon win for UCSB in the last three years. Williams led a strong team showing for UCSB as four men broke into the scoring column, running up a combined 20 points, giving the Gauchos the team lead heading into next weekends championship meet.
  • Track Successful in Final Tune-Up at Occidental

    While the multi-event athletes were busy kicking off the Big West Championship season, a small contingent of Gauchos competed at the Occidental Invitational. Using the meet as a final tune-up for the Big West finale, UCSB added four marks to the All-Time list, highlighted by Tori Tsolis' #2 AT 1,500m clip of 4:21.95.
  • Gauchos Complete Day One of Big West Multi-Event Championships

    RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Six UCSB athletes competed on the first day of the Big West Multi-Event Championships at UC Riverside. Five Gauchos sit in the top-ten after the first day of decathlon action. Lolene Swallow is in twelfth after the first day of the heptathlon.
  • Big West Track and Field Championships Begin with Multi-Events

    This weekend the Gauchos will begin the first portion of the Big West Track and Field Championships. UC Riverside will welcome in sixteen decathletes and eighteen heptathletes competing for the title of "Best All-Around Athlete" in the Big West. UCSB will send five decathletes and one heptathlete down to test their event skills over the course of the two-day, Friday-Saturday competition.
  • Track Splits Dual Meets with Cal Poly; Pick Up 19 Event Wins

    On a beautiful sunny day at Westmont College, the UCSB track and field teams split with the Cal Poly Mustangs. The UCSB men took a convincing win by winning nine individual events to go with a sweep in the relays. The UCSB women won seven events including the 4 x 400m relay but it wasn't enough as the Mustangs pulled away late in the afternoon for the win.
  • Gauchos to Host Cal Poly Dual Meet This Weekend

    After back to back weekends of relay and open event competition, the UCSB track and field programs will return to team scoring with the annual Cal Poly Dual this Saturday at Westmont College. Hosting the meet for the first time since 2011, the UCSB men bring an 8-1 dual meet record into the competition while the UCSB women are at 5-4 on the season.
  • Throwers Shine at Rainy Triton Invite

    LA JOLLA, Calif. - The Gauchos sent a small contingent of throwers to the Triton Invite at UC San Diego, Friday and Saturday in search of long throws. Over 1,500 athletes were in attendance, some from across the globe, hoping for strong winds and sunny conditions. The winds were there. The sun was a different story. Regardless, Albert Hughes led the team with his 201'3 hammer throw, placing fourth in a field of 48 throwers.
  • UCSB Throwers Load Up for Triton Invite

    The Gauchos will send a small unit of throwers to UC San Diego for the Triton Invite while the rest of the team trains through the weekend. Albert Hughes, the #1 ranked Big West hammer thrower will headline a UCSB group of mostly discus and hammer throwers. Taking advantage of the piping Pacific winds, UCSD will field a world class throws field this weekend as throwers from all levels will gather in search of big marks.
  • Gauchos Collect Season's Best Marks at Mt. Sac Relays and Bryan Clay Invite

    With no team scoring on the line, the Gauchos made a strategic team split this week in search of improving marks on the Big West and NCAA list. They were rewarded with a wealth of season and lifetime PR's while adding seven new marks to the UCSB All-Time list. Earlier in the week, decathlete Darion Williams took the Big West lead in the decathlon with a score of 6578
  • Track Splits for Azusa Pacific, Mt. Sac Relays

    The Gauchos will be out in full force in the San Gabriel Valley, competing at Azusa Pacific for the Bryan Clay Invitational and at the Mt. Sac Relays. Select athletes will also compete in the California Invitational decathlon held at APU on Wednesday and Thursday. The Bryan Clay Invitational will be held Friday and athletes will compete at Mt. Sac on Thursday evening and throughout the day Friday.
  • Schreck Sets Javelin Record, Men Runner-Up, Women Third in Big West Challenge

    Hosting the Big West Challenge Cup for the first time in three years, Cal State Fullerton put on one memorable meet. With a spirit squad, a live DJ and a knowledgeable announcer on hand, the fans in attendance were treated to a tight, high powered collegiate competition. Thomas Gore-Schreck delivered the highlight of the meet for the Gauchos with his 234'3 javelin toss, a new school record and 10th best mark in the NCAA this season.
  • Big West Challenge Cup on the Line Friday at CSUF

    The 6-0 UCSB men and 4-2 UCSB women will travel to Cal State Fullerton this Friday for the annual Big West Challenge Cup. In attendance will be host CSUF, Long Beach State and UC Irvine. Two athletes per team will be counted in the scoring in the following format, 9-7-6-5-4-3-2-1. In addition, only one relay team per school will be allowed to score.
  • Big West Leaders Gore-Schreck and Emde Take Home AOW Honors

    Two of UCSB's Big West leaders took home Field Athlete of The Week honors Tuesday for their performances at the Stanford Invitational. Thomas Gore-Schreck, a senior from Portola Valley, Calif., added nine feet to his lifetime best in the javelin, placing sixth in the invitational section with a throw of 221'7. Jessica Emde, a junior from Eldorado Hills, Calif., added 1cm to her lifetime best in the high jump, placing fourth as the top collegiate jumper with a mark of 5'9.75.
  • Throwers Lead Gauchos on Day Two of Stanford Invitational

    On the final day of the Stanford Invitational, the Gaucho throwers finished strong and in doing so added several marks to the UCSB All-Time list including a new school record. On her first throw of the competition, Melissa Rake rewrote her school record in the javelin with a mark of 154'1. The junior from San Dimas, Calif., broke her previous record of 151' set at last year's Big West Championship. Rake won the meet and likely secured an NCAA qualifying bid with her effort.
  • Gauchos on Point at Stanford Invitational

    The UCSB track and field teams completed day one of the Stanford Invitational on Friday as nineteen athletes made appearances in individual events. Several UCSB All-Time marks were established and group of Gauchos improved upon their NCAA marks. 109 four year schools were in attendance to go along with the over 3,200 athletes competing in the open, collegiate and high school divisions in what is being billed as one of the top meets in the NCAA this season.

    After a successful run in scored meets, the UCSB track and field squads will now focus their attention on improving conference and national marks at the Stanford Invitational. Held at Stanford's Cobb Track and Angell Field, the Stanford Invitational will take place this Friday and Saturday. Athletes from around the world will assemble for what is being billed as one of the best meets in America.
  • Albert Hughes Becomes Second UCSB Thrower to Earn Big West AOW Honors This Season

    Senior UCSB thrower Albert Hughes was voted Big West Field Athlete of The Week for his hammer performance at the UC Riverside Spring Track Classic. Hughes won the competition in spectacular fashion, throwing 209'3- a mark which puts him #14 in the NCAA. His performance moves him to #3 All-Time in UCSB history and is the top mark in the Big West Conference this season.
