LOS ANGELES, Calif.—While the UCSB multi-athletes competed in day two of the Big West Multi-event Championships, part of the UCSB squad was an hour north, competing in the Occidental Invite on Saturday, May 5.
Cassie Brooker lead the women in the 1,500m with her 9th place finish, crossing the line in a life-time best time of 4:31.18 while teammate Megan Petkovic followed closely behind in 4:34.33. Courtney Lightfoot placed in the top 15 of the 800m run and clocking in a time of 2:12.19.
Tayler Williams represented UCSB in the triple jump event, placing fourth with her clearance of 39-10.5. Helena Montin tied for 7th in the high jump at 5-4.25.
On the men's side, Anthony Ortolan lead the 1,500m with a 3:53.55 followed by Baxter Frick in 3:50.69. Winton Nguyen lead the men in the 400m clocking in a time of 48.87 for a new personal best. Eric Severiano crossed the line in 49.70.
Shyan Vaziri improved his personal best in the 800m to 1:50.21 and finishing 13th overall. This time moves Shyan into 8th place on the all-time UCSB 800m list. Rusty Parker followed behind in 1:50.83.
In the throws, Julian Samson led the men in the discus throwing 161-11 while Albert Hughes threw 151-4. Hughes also competed in the javelin where he threw 138-5 for 8th place. Taylor Duncan cleared at 14-6 in the pole vault and Arthur Dyson jumped 43-7.25 in the triple jump.
