MALIBU, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara junior Bijan Hejazi and senior Jack Hui each won their second round match at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association West Regional at Pepperdine on Thursday afternoon. Hejazi defeated Cal Poly's Rob Foy, 6-2, 6-1, and Hui topped USC's Andrew Pretrowski by a score of 7-5, 6-3.
Sophomore Philip Therp, who had a first round bye, dropped his match to Rudolf Siwy of Fresno State, 6-3, 6-3 and junior Max Taylor, a first round winner, lost his second round match to Tom Liversage of San Diego State, 7-5, 6-4. Freshman Alex Konigsfeldt, who won his first rounder, lost in the second round to second-seeded Harel Srugo of UCLA, 6-3, 6-3.
In addition Hejazi, Hui, Therp, Taylor and Konigsfeldt, Scott Hohenstein, a first round winner, was forced to default his second round singles match against San Diego State's Matan Shitrit after injuring his knee.
In the consolation bracket, freshman Taylor Chavez Goggin, Santa Barbara native, defeated UCLA's Chris Ho, another Santa Barbara native, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (6).
Hejazi and Nigel Barton won their second round doubles match by default, but Hohensein and Hui lost their second round match to UCLA's Dobson and Issara, 8-5, and Konigsfeldt and Chavez Goggin dropped an 8-1 decision to Begemann and Altmann from Pepperdine, 8-1.
On Friday, Hejazi will take on ninth-seeded James Lemke of Pepperdine in a third round match that will begin at 1:00 p.m. Hui will play either Stefan Nikolic of Loyola Marymount or Denny Fafek of Fresno State in a match that will start at 2:30 p.m.
The doubles team of Hejazi and Barton will play the third-seeded duo of Sascha Heinemann and Andreas Weber of Hawaii at 10:00 a.m.
