UCSB Signs Danish Tennis Star Alexander Konigsfeldt to National Letter of Intent

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Alexander Konigsfeldt, a top junior player in Denmark, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play tennis at UC Santa Barbara, head coach Marty Davis announced Wednesday.
Konigsfeldt, a native of Vedbaek, Denmark who climbed as high as fifth in the Danish junior rankings, is currently ranked 11th in the men's rankings. He was a runner-up in the Danish Junior Championship under-18 singles and a winner of the Danish Junior Championship in under-18 mixed doubles. Konigsfeldt was also a semifinalist in an ITF junior tournament in Copenhagen, he advanced to the quarter-finals of the Danish national Outdoor Championship in 2006 and he participated several doubles finals in the Danish Junior Championships throughout his junior career and he was a three-time regional champion.
"Alexander will be a very good addition to our program," Davis assured. "He possesses an outstanding return of serve and is remarkably steady from the baseline. He should help us immediately."
Konigsfeldt is the third player to sign with UCSB in the spring. He joins Frenchman Zeidan Maher and Santa Barbara High School product Taylor Chavez Goggin, who will also enter as freshmen. In addition, the two-time defending Big West Champs could return every player who was active at the conclusion of the 2007 season. Only senior Elad Stern, who missed the last two months of the season, will depart.
