SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team, currently riding a three-match winning streak, has entered the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings for the first time this season at No. 69. The Gauchos, 6-4 overall, return to the rankings for the first time since the 2007 season.
"This group still has a long way to go before reaching its potential," began UCSB head coach Marty Davis, "but it is good to be recognized for our progress."
The Gauchos have won three consecutive matches, posting wins over Big West rivals UC Irvine and UC Riverside, and then defeating Yale. They will continue their journey through the Ivy League on Easter Sunday when they host Dartmouth in a noon match at the Recreation Center Courts.
UCSB, which is unbeaten at home, will have a busy spring break next week, hosting No. 43 Harvard on Tuesday, Mar. 25 at the Recreation Center Courts in a 1:00 p.m. match. On Thursday, Mar. 27, the Gauchos will play Santa Clara in a 1:00 p.m. match at the Tennis Club of Santa Barbara, and then on Saturday Mar. 29, they play No. 59 San Diego State in a 1:00 p.m. match at the Recreation Center Courts.
"We can really make a statement and begin building a case for NCAA Tournament selection if we can hold serve at home," Davis said.
Following the match against San Diego State, UCSB will play three more home matches in a row, hosting Fresno State (April 4), UC Davis (April 5), and Pacific (April 6).
