SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara men's and women's tennis programs will conduct a free instructional clinic for local kids on Sunday, Mar. 22 following the men's match against Dartmouth. The clinic, which is being offered as part of the Gauchos Give Community Outreach Initiative, will be held at the Recreation Center Tennis Courts on campus.
The UCSB women's team will also play Dartmouth on Sunday. The women's match begins at 10:00 a.m. on the Robertson Gymnasium Tennis Courts. The Gaucho men's match will start at 1:00 p.m. on the Recreation Center Courts. Depending on the length of the match, the clinic should start between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m.
The Santa Barbara Tennis Patrons will be bringing a group of local team tennis participants.
"This clinic will be a great opportunity for local youth to get free instruction and tips," said UCSB men's coach Marty Davis. "It is also an opportunity for our programs to give back to a community that gives us so much."
Also, in its on-going effort to draw awareness to breast cancer and to promote its research, the UCSB Athletics Department will sponsor "Pink Week" at three of its athletics events on Mar. 28, 2009.
Three UCSB intercollegiate events, scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 28, have been designated "Pink Week Games." The women's tennis match, slated for 11:00 a.m. on the Robertson Gymnasium Courts, a softball doubleheader scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. on Campus Diamond, and a 12:00 p.m. women's water polo match at Campus Pool will all be part of the effort.
"Pink Week" is part of UCSB Athletics' BE Great initiative.
