The Battle to the North
The UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team will travel to Seattle this weekend for a pair of matches against 37th-ranked Washington and Ball State. The Gauchos have had two weeks off to prepare for their trip to Washington after their home opener against 75th-ranked Santa Clara, scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 27, was postponed due to rain. UCSB will battle Washington on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and then take on Ball State the following day at 3:00 p.m. Both matches will take place indoors at the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle.

The Competition- Univ. of Washington
The Huskies come into this weekend's match-up at 2-2 this season. After winning its first two contests at home, Washington dropped its last two road matches in Texas against 22nd-ranked Texas A&M and fourth-ranked Baylor. However, the match will not be easy for the Gauchos as they have lost their last three meetings against the Huskies including a brutal 7-0 thrashing on Feb. 12, 2006.

Ball State
Ball State has been swept twice this season, one to its opener against eighth-ranked Illinois and the other against 21st-ranked Michigan. However, the Cardinals have climbed back into the standings with three sweeps of their own over IPFW, Valparaiso, and Indianapolis. They will face the Gauchos with a 3-3 overall record coming into Saturday's match-up.

Injured Reserve for the Gauchos
UC Santa Barbara will play without the help of junior Max Taylor, out with an injured foot and senior Anders Dalskov who is recovering from knee surgery. Sadly, the Gauchos will also lose Scott Hohenstein for the second straight season after undergoing shoulder surgery last week.

In Store for Next Week
After their pair of matches this weekend in Washington, the Gauchos will finally play their home opener against Loyola Marymount on Feb. 17. The match will be the first of two at home as UCSB will face Oregon on Feb. 24.
