Men's Tennis Falls Short Against No. 7 Florida

Gainesville, Fla., - The UC Santa Barbara Men's tennis team's early season struggles continued with a 4-0 loss to No. 7 Florida Friday, in the opening round of the National Team Indoor Championships.

The Gauchos first three matches has been a murderers row of sorts, consisting of three teams ranked in the top-25 nationally.

Mathieu Forget and Benjamin Recknagle withstood a furious rally to give the gauchos their first doubles win of the season, downing the duo of Sekou Bangoura and Andrew Butz 9-8 (4).

In singles, Alex Konigsfeldt came tantalizingly close to earning his first win of the season, but his match with #28 Sekou Bangoura was stopped due to time constraints, with Konigsfeldt leading 6-3, 3-1.

"It's disappointing for Alex who had a set lead and was up 3-1 in the second set," said head coach Marty Davis. "In my view this was a step forward for us."

The Gauchos are up against No. 62 Troy Saturday, in the consolation match beginning at 10 a.m. in Gainesville.
