Malibu, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team suffered a series of tough defeats against #21 Pepperdine, Saturday in Malibu.

The gauchos failed to win a match, losing 7-0 despite forcing six tiebreakers, two of which came in doubles matches.

"We actually played well," said head coach Marty Davis. We were right there, but we couldn't win the tiebreakers.

Three gauchos matched up against nationally ranked opponents in singles matches and all three held their own before eventually losing. Mathieu Forget battled #112 ranked Finn Tearney, falling in straight sets 7-6, 6-4. Benjamin Recknagle also tasted defeat against #40 Alex Llompart 6-2, 7-5.

Fresh off competing at the National Collegiate Tennis Classis, Alex Konigsfeldt extended his match with #14 ranked Sebastian Fanselow to three sets before losing 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.

"I don't ever remember playing Pepperdine this close in every match," said Davis.

In doubles, the duo of Alex Konigsfeldt and Taylor Chavez Goggin took Hugh Clarke and Finn Tearney to the brink losing 9-8 (7-1). Recknagle and Forget also forced a tiebreaker in their doubles match against Alex Llompart and Alfredo Moreno falling 9-8 (7-4).
