Santa Barbara, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara kicked off the UCSB Classic with a sweep against the Westmont Warriors on Friday at the Recreation Center Courts.
In the A Flight Doubles, Alex Konigsfeldt and Scott Hohenstein shut out Bryan Cox and Diego Almeida, 8-0. "Alex claims he didn't miss a return of serve in the entire match, and I believe him," said Coach Marty Davis.
Among the other wins against the Warriors, Benjamin Recknagel and Lucas Sudow defeated Tiago Hayashi and Arthur Kalayjian, 8-2. Josh Finkelstein and Taylor Chavez-Goggin also beat Kent Stormans and Aaron Cooke, 8-5.
In the Flight A Singles, Mathieu Forget defeated Tiago Hayashi in three sets. After losing the first set 6-7, Forget made a comeback and won the second set, 6-1. Forget went on to defeat Hayashi 6-2 in the third set to win the match.
UCSB will continue play on Sunday against Loyola Marymount University at 1:00PM at the Recreation Center Courts.
