SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Senior Alex Konigsfeldt posted straight set wins in the first two rounds of the Southern California Intercollegiate Championship on Thursday at UCLA.
After winning in the first round against Janosch Apelt of Azusa Pacific, he swept BYU's Patrik Kawka, 6-2, 6-1. Earlier in the day, Kawka had defeated second-seeded Daniel Kosakowski of UCLA. Konigsfeldt will play Pepperdine's Jensen Turner in the quarterfinals on Friday afternoon.
The Gauchos' Benjamin Recknagel also recorded a main draw win on Thursday, defeating Erik Elliott of UC San Diego, before losing to fourth-seeded Peter Lucassen of USC. Evan Jurgensen, who qualified for the main draw with two wins on Wednesday, was defeated in the first round by Denver's Jens Vorkefeld, 7-6, 6-1.
Konigsfeldt and Recknagel will compete in the main doubles draw which will begin on Friday afternoon.
