Bijan Hejazi Advances to Semifinals at Southern California Intercollegiate Championships

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara sophomore Bijan Hejazi defeated Jeremy Drean of UCLA on Friday to become the lone Gaucho to advance to the semifinals of the 50th Annual Southern California Intercollegiate Championships being held at the Los Angeles Tennis Club.
Hejazi came back from a 2-6 loss in the first set to capture the next two sets 6-1, 6-1 over Drean. The Santa Clara, Calif. native, who is seeded fourth in the tournament, defeated Denver's Ravjot Dhatt, 6-4, 6-3 in the first round and David Goodman of Azusa Pacific, 7-6, 4-6, 7-5 in the second round to advance to the quarterfinal match.
Freshman Philip Therp and sophomore Jack Hui both had their tournament journey end in the quarterfinals. Therp, who knocked off the No. 1 tournament seed Adam Holmstrom of Denver Thursday by way of a 6-1, 6-3 victory, fell to Mike Look of UCLA, 6-2, 6-4 today.
No. 5 seed Hui was defeated by Richard Johnson of Pepperdine 6-3, 6-3 Friday. The Hong Kong native had taken down Johnson's teammate Troy Aiken in the first round, 6-2, 6-0 and Loyola Marymount's Reyniere Roxas in the second round, 6-4, 6-4.
Hejazi will face either Mathieu Dehaine of UCLA or Mark Contreras of UC Riverside in the semifinals on Saturday.
