Gauchos Have Outstanding First Day at ITA Tournament

Malibu, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara men¹s tennis team had a strong first day at the ITA Tournament hosted by Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif.
The first round of the singles bracket began on Thursday with a draw of 128. Three of the Gauchos qualified to advance.
UCSB¹s Taylor Chavez Goggin beat Hawaii¹s Jeremy Tweedt in three sets by scores of 4-6, 7-6, 6-4. Sophomore Nick Caledonia played Stewart Keplar of Pepperdine and won the match 6-0, 6-1. Evan Lee of UCLA was beaten by Gaucho junior Evan Jurgensen, 6-4, 6-3.
USC¹s Dan Dliner defeated UCSB sophomore Devin Nerenberg in the 1st round 6-1, 6-3.
In the doubles draw of 64, junior Alex Konigsfeldt and freshman Benjamin Recknagel won their match against Hawaii¹s Phillip Eberhard and Dmytro Kovalyov by a score of 8-3. Konigsfeldt and Recknagel will advance to the next round.
The Gauchos continue their play in the tournament Friday.
