SANTA CLARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara freshman Max Taylor, playing in his first college tournament, advanced to the championship semifinal of the Red Singles draw of the Santa Clara Bronco Classic last weekend. After earning a bye into the round of 16, the Fresno, Calif. native won his first two matches before losing in the semifinals to the University of San Francisco's Thong Tu 6-2, 7-5.
Seniors Nick Brotman and Ivan d'Argence had strong showings in the tournament, as well. After wining two matches, Brotman advanced to the quarterfinal round where he was defeated by Cal's Ken Nakahara 7-5, 7-6. Cal's Dean Wallace won the consolation championship after beating d'Argence by a score of 7-5, 6-4.
