SMU Defeats UCSB, 4-3

Dallas, Texas - The UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team was defeated by SMU 4-3, Sunday, at the Turpin Tennis Center. The Gauchos have now dropped five consecutive matches.

UCSB has been competitive throughout the rough strech, losing four of the five matches by a 4-3 margin.

Doubles play has haunted the Gauchos in close matches this season and the trend continued Sunday, as SMU took the point with wins at courts No. 2 and No. 3. Alex Konigsfeldt and Taylor Chavez-Goggin won their match at court No. 1 defeating Joe Hattrup and Tobias Flood 8-6.

In singles, Benjamin Recknagel defeated David Costa 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 at court No. 1 and Alex Konigsfeldt defeated Gaston Cuadranti 3-6, 7-5 (10-1) at court No.2.

The Gauchos' next match is Saturday, April 16 against Cal Poly beginning at 1 p.m. at the Recreation Center Courts on campus.
