Santa Barbara, Calif. - The rain cleared just in time for the UC Santa Barbara men's team to get a 6-1 blowout win over the University of Oregon at the Recreational Center Courts on Sunday afternoon. The victory provided the Gauchos with their first win over a Pac-10 team in over a decade.
At the No. 2 slot in doubles, Alexander Konigsfeldt and Josh Finkelstein rolled past Oregon's Mike Myrhed and Alex Cornelisseu, 8-4. However, the loss at the No. 1 spot set the stage for a dramatic come-from-behind victory by junior Bijan Hejazi and senior Nigel Barton. After the duo was down a service break at 4-7, Hejazi and Barton came roaring back with the support of the crowd, posting a spectacular 9-8 victory to give UCSB an emotional lift and a 1-0 lead.
The Gauchos never looked back as Jack Hui, Alex Konigsfeldt and Eric Lee all posted straight set victories at the No. 4, No. 3 and No. 6 slots to seal their third straight win. Bijan Hejazi and Philip Therp rallied back from dropping their opening sets to win in three sets at No. 1 and No. 2.
"It was a great day of tennis for our guys," Davis said. "This was our second straight win against a team coming off of a ranked victory."
Before the Ducks came into Santa Barbara, they knocked off No. 63 UC Irvine 5-1 on Saturday.
Max Taylor, who has been out for three weeks with a foot injury, stepped in at the No. 5 position, but dropped a 7-6, 6-1 decision to Oregon's Mike Myrhed.
The Gauchos will take their three-game winning streak on the road this Wednesday as they will face UCLA at 1:30 p.m.
