Gainesville Fla - UC Santa Barbara Men's tennis earned its first victory of the season posting a 4-0 victory over Troy in the consolation match of the ITA Kick Off Weekend in Gainesville Florida Saturday.
The Gauchos completed the sweep when Max Glenn defeated Mario Rolemberg in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. Glenn's victory clinched the win for UCSB and the remaining in-progress matches were abandoned, as has been the case throughout the weekend.
In doubles, Konigsfeldt and Taylor Chavez-Goggin posted a lopsided victory over Niklas Jonnson and Mario Rolemberg winning 8-2. Evan Jurgensesn and Philip Therp needed a tiebreaker to defeat Jamie Eccleton and Branko Webber 9-7 and clinch the doubles point.
The Gauchos made a statement by easily defeating a Troy team that is ranked one spot behind them at no. 62 in the ITA National Rankings.
"Today was critical," said head coach Marty Davis. "The previous matches were educational for us, but at some point for your confidence its good to get a win."
Next up for the Gauchos is their home opener against the University of San Diego on Saturday, Feb. 5 beginning at 1 p.m.
