Guillin Loses in Day Two of All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. - The UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team saw its only participant, junior Joseph Guillin, lose in the second round of the singles qualifying draw at the ITA All-American Championships.

Guillin earned the opportunity to face Texas A&M's Barnaby Smith following a very impressive 6-4, 6-3 upset win over No. 69/16th-seeded Tommy Mylnikov of Texas Tech University. Despite a tough match which saw the UCSB junior battle back to force the match to go three sets, Guillin ultimately lost by set scores of 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

With the loss, Guillin, who is currently ranked No. 95 in the country, is eliminated from contention in the tournament ending his first fall tournament run as a Gaucho. Last season, Guillin finished 19-2 overall with no wins against ranked opponents. His upset win in Day One proved he has and will continue improving.

For the meantime, UCSB's senior ace, Nicolas Moreno de Alboran, is the now only Gaucho left in the tournament. He will face off in the main draw of the tournament which begins Thursday, October 4 with the time and opponent to be determined.

If Moreno de Alboran can advance to at least the quarterfinals, he will earn a berth in the 2018 ITA Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, which takes place November 7-11 in Arizona. The New York native participated in that tournament last season.
