SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Junior transfer Tobias Galskov was named Big West Men's Tennis Player of the Week after notching two comeback wins in singles play over the weekend against LMU and Arizona.
Galskov, who is currently ranked No. 108 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, was the hero in UCSB's Saturday match against Loyola Marymount after mounting a comeback against the Lions' Felix Van Kann at No. 2 singles.
With the score all tied up at 3-all, Galskov battled back from a set down, to defeat Van Kann 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the Gauchos' home opener to give UCSB their second win the season.
In the second game of the home stand, Galskov again found himself trailing at No. 2 singles but recovered to win the match against Arizona's Kieren Thompson 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 for his third dual match win of the season. Galskov's win nearly pushed the Gauchos to victory but the team ultimately fell 4-3 to the Wildcats.
Galskov and the rest of the Gauchos will travel to Hawaii this weekend to take on Hawaii Pacific on Saturday and Big West foe Hawaii on Sunday. Action is set to begin at 9am on Saturday and 1pm on Sunday.
