MALIBU, Calif. – UC Santa Barbara junior Tobias Galskov was eliminated on Day 4 of the USTA/ITA Southwest Regionals after an amazing run to the semifinals in what is considered to be one of the toughest regionals in the country. Senior Sasha Gryaznov also fell just short of a finals bid, this time in the consolation bracket, losing in a 10-point tiebreaker to Seth Stolar (UCLA).
A day after etching his name in the UCSB record books for making it farther than any other Gaucho at the ITA Southwest Regionals, Tobias Galskov was defeated by nationally ranked, #18 Yannick Hanfmann of USC in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Galskov posted impressive wins over players from top teams such as UCLA and Pepperdine over the first three days of the tournament but was outmatched by the second seeded, Hanfmann in the semifinals.
UCSB senior Sasha Gryaznov lost in a tough battle against UCLA's Seth Stolar in his consolation draw semifinal match. Stolar came back from a one set deficit to defeat Gryaznov 6-7, 6-4, 10-3 and eliminate the Gaucho from the tournament.
The Gauchos will be back on the courts next Wednesday at the SoCal Intercollegiate tournament in Los Angeles, Calif. The tournament will begin on Oct. 30 and run through Nov. 3 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center at UCLA.
