MALIBU, Calif. – Men's tennis will hit the road for the ITA Southwest Regionals this weekend in Malibu, Calif. The tournament runs from Oct. 18 to Oct. 22 at Pepperdine's Ralph Straus Tennis Center.
UCSB will send nine players, including all six newcomers, to play in one of the toughest regionals in the country. The tournament will feature players from powerhouses Pepperdine, USC, and UCLA as well as Big West rivals Cal Poly, Hawaii, and UC Irvine.
The Gauchos are coming off their 2nd annual UCSB Classic, where Gaucho players finished strong after a slow start. UCSB head coach Marty Davis said he noticed "a palpable improvement in the play of [the] six new team members each day." UCSB claimed a first place finish in B Flight Doubles, C Flight Singles and Doubles, and were runners-up in B Flight Singles and Doubles.
The ITA Southwest Regionals will start on Friday, Oct. 18 with two rounds of singles and one round of doubles. Action is set to begin at 9AM.
