SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Gauchos (2-3) will be hosting rivals, No. 65 Cal Poly (4-1), in their regular season finale on Saturday before heading to the Big West Tournament at Indian Wells, April 25-28.
After their narrow 4-3 loss to Hawaii, the Gauchos are now locked into the fifth seed for the Big West Tournament but will be looking to play spoiler to visiting No. 65 Cal Poly, who leads the conference with a 4-1 record, and needs a win and a Pacific loss to capture the top seed.
In his first three seasons at UCSB, Benjamin Recknagel compiled a 44-30 overall record in singles, playing primarily at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions and has had another strong campaign this season, going 11-7 in singles play and 9-6 in doubles on the dual match season.
Mbonisi Ndimande's career at UCSB began in 2011-2012, when he went 25-8 in singles, playing mostly at the No. 3 position, and accumulated a 17-13 record in doubles. This year has been another strong year for the senior, who sports an 11-9 record splitting time primarily between the No. 1 and No. 2 positions and a 10-8 record in No. 1 doubles.
Max Glenn, who currently serves as captain of the team, compiled a 22-17 record in singles play over his career at UCSB.
The Gauchos' regular season finale will be held at the Rec Cen Courts on Saturday beginning at 1:00 PM.
