SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Men's tennis is set to host #43 University of Oregon on Thursday, Apr. 11 in what will be the Gauchos' final non-conference match of the season.
UCSB split their first two conference matches over this past weekend, defeating UC Riverside (0-3) on Saturday and falling to UC Irvine (2-1) on Sunday. In their match against the Highlanders, the Gauchos swept doubles and added five wins in singles en route to a 6-1 victory. UCSB faced stiffer competition in a UC Irvine team that came in confident after upsetting then #73-ranked Cal Poly. The Gauchos battled hard but were edged for the doubles point and lost four of six singles matches in the 5-2 defeat.
The Gauchos (1-1) will take a break from Big West play for their last out-of-conference match of the season. UCSB will take on the visiting #43 Oregon Ducks, who are fresh off their first win over the #47 Stanford Cardinal in school history. The Ducks boast an impressive 45-9 record in doubles play and are led by nationally ranked doubles team, No. 56 Cambier/Mullen, who play at the No. 1 position.
The Gauchos are entering the home stretch of the regular season, with only 5 matches remaining on the schedule. After the Gauchos' match against Oregon, UCSB will head on their final road trip before playing out the rest of their schedule at home, where they've accumulated a stellar 6-2 record on the season.
As part of UCSB's Sexual Abuse Awareness Month, the team will wear a Teal Ribbon during the remainder of their home matches to raise awareness for sexual violence.
The Gauchos will begin wearing the ribbons in their match against the #43 University of Oregon on Thursday. Action is set to begin at 2:00 PM (PST) at the Rec Cen Courts.
