Sultan Falls Just Short of Reaching Main Draw at SoCal Intercollegiate

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The UCSB men's tennis team had only one player in action Wednesday at the 56th Annual SoCal Intercollegiate Championships taking place at UCLA.

Sophomore Ziad Sultan was the sole Gaucho in the qualifying draw and had to win out to reach the main draw where three other Gauchos will be playing Thursday morning. Sultan began his day with a straight set 6-2, 6-2 win over UCSD's Rajeev Herekar in the Round of 32.

Sultan then took on Victor Pugliese of the University of San Diego and lost in a close match 0-6; 6-2; 13-11 to come just short of reaching the main draw.

With all the singles match-ups set, the other three Gauchos, Mbonisi Ndimande, Benjamin Recknagel, and Axel Bouillin, will be in action Thursday beginning at 11:30am.
