SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – After a two-week break, the Gauchos men's tennis team will take the road once again for the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships this Wednesday taking place at UCLA.
UCSB will send only four players for this tournament including Mbonisi Ndimande, who went all the way to the quarterfinals in the ITA Southwest Regional Championships, Benjamin Recknagel, Axel Bouillin, and Ziad Sultan.
Ziad Sultan, Axel Bouillin, and senior Benjamin Recknagel went out in the Round of 64, 32, and 16 respectively in the previous tournament against a tough field and will be looking to build on their strong starts to the season.
The Gauchos will be facing players from ten other schools including UCLA, USC, Pepperdine, Concordia, BYU, USD, LMU, APU, UCSD, and Big West rivals Cal Poly.
Three of the four Gauchos players will begin their singles play in the main draw of 32. Ndimande, who earned the fifth seed in the tournament, goes up against BYU's Keaton Cullimore on Thursday. Fellow senior, Benjamin Recknagel, also earned a fifth seed and will face Corey Smith of USC. Sophomore Axel Bouillin's opponent is yet to be determined.
