Forget Earns Second Big West Player of the Week Honor; No. 61 Gauchos Host UC Davis
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Senior Mathieu Forget has been named Big West Men's Tennis Player of the Week after leading 61st-ranked UC Santa Barbara to a 4-3 win over visiting nationally-ranked SMU last Saturday and a 5-2 win at No. 55 UC Irvine on Monday.
Playing at No. 1 singles, Forget defeated the Mustangs' Gaston Cuadranti in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. He continued his outstanding play on Monday with a win over UCI's Fabian Matthews, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
"Mathieu is really establishing himself as a No. 1 player," said Gaucho coach Marty Davis. "His wins last week were more proof of that."
Forget, UCSB's co-Captain, won the award for the second time this year. The match wins for the Gauchos helped them move from No. 62 in the rankings to No. 61.
Santa Barbara, which is 6-4 overall and 1-0 in Big West play, will host UC Davis on Saturday, Feb. 25 beginning at 1:00 p.m. on the Recreation Center Courts.
