UCSB Dominates on Final Day of UC Irvine Invitational

IRVINE, Calif. – UC Santa Barbara had an outstanding final day at the UC Irvine Invitational on Sunday, collecting several wins in singles and doubles competition.

Playing exclusively against UC Irvine opponents on Sunday, Gaucho doubles players won two out of three matches while their singles players won four of six.
In the doubles competition, Mbonisi Ndimande and Mathieu Forget defeated Jon Kazarian and Sam Gould by an 8-4 count.  Ziad Sultan and Alexander Gryaznov topped Shuhei Sibahara and Jacob Jung, 8-4.  The lone UCSB doubles tandem to lose was Benjamin Recknagel and Greg Scott who dropped an 8-3 decision to Fabian Matthews and Ryan Cheung.
 
In singles, UCSB won four of six contests.

Forget dumped Gould, 6-4, 6-4.  Scott swept Cheung by a 6-1, 6-4 count.  Ndimande edged Jung in three, 7-6, 2-6, 6-0, and Sultan defeated Shibahara by a 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 count.  UCI's Matthews defeated UCSB's Recknagel in two sets, 6-3, 7-5, and Kazarian beat Gryaznov, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.

The Gauchos return to action at the ITA Regional in Malibu, Calif., from Oct. 19-24.
