Swim Team Reunion Honors Dr. Frank Rohter

Swimmers from UCSB's 1958-1960 team reunited on Saturday May 6, 2006 to honor the first swimming and water polo coach at UCSB, Dr. Frank Rohter. In attendance was Dr. Rohter along with 15-20 Gaucho Greats including Bill Bryson a four year All American on the 1958 team and his daughter, another Gaucho Great, who still holds UCSB records today. Also in attendance was Don Roth, 1966 Division I champion in the 100 yard freestyle. The reunion, coordinated by Doug Reimen, included a luncheon and dinner at Hary's Plaza Café and was a huge success. Dr. Rohter will soon retire from active teaching after a 38-year career at Central Florida University. He was the pioneering swimming and water polo coach from UCSB from 1958-1960 and influenced not only the university aquatics, but the greater Santa Barbara area as well. The attendees reacquainted with one another and toured the campus. The Gaucho swimming program is thankful for their contributions as student athletes as well as their interest to this day.
