UCSB junior Pat Cary can call himself a two-time All-American thanks to a stellar performance at last week's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Atlanta, Ga. After breaking his own 200-yard butterfly school record with a time of 1:44.28 in Saturday's prelims, Cary placed fifth in the championship heat at 1:44.41 to become UCSB's first All-American since 1999. On Friday, the Trabuco Canyon, Calif., native placed 15th in 100 butterfly competition by touching the wall in 47.50, earning honorable mention All-American recognition in that event. His time of 47.27 in the 100 fly prelims also lowered his own school record. Cary tallied 17 total points at the NCAA meet, earning the Gauchos a 29th-place national finish.
