Cary Finishes 14th in 100 Butterfly Finals at NCAA Championships, Ota is 24th in 100 Backstroke

ATLANTA - Junior Pat Cary swam a 47.50 in the finals of the 100 meter butterfly on Friday evening in the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. Cary finished 14th to earn UCSB three points in the team standings.

The Trabuco Canyon, Calif., native swam a 47.27 in the preliminaries earlier Friday. Cary's prelim time was the 15th best among 40 entries.

In addition to Cary's finish, senior Patrick Ota finished 24th in the prelims of the 100 meter backstroke with a time of 49.10.

Cary's finish should be good enough to earn him All-American honors. He will compete in his best event, the 200 meter butterfly, on Saturday. The preliminaries start at 9:00 a.m. (PST) with the finals slated for 4:00 p.m. (PST).
