SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UCSB men's and women's teams look forward to closing out the dual meet season against Big West Championship rival UNLV on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at Campus Pool.
Nine Gauchos senior swimmers will be honored for their athleticism and leadership during the half point of the meet. This is a great opportunity for friends and alumni to come out and wish the best to these swimmers as the last official dual meet of the season. Next dual meet will be against University of California Berkeley and will be a non-scoring meet.
The five senior men include co-captains T.K. Erwin and Garrett Porteous, as well as Grant Hurst, Robbie Dame, and Pat Ota. For the women four will be honored including co-captains Jen Cook and Shannon Avison, as well as Danielle Taylor and Allison Eller.
UNLV brings tough competition to the pool. Long time rivals, 25 years according to Head Coach Gregg Wilson, who will be brining their top lineups to the pool on Saturday.
"Each team brings out the best in the other," Wilson stated. He will have his top lineup ready to face UNLV as he remains confident and optimistic about Saturday's swims. "I expect outstanding performances from both sides."
After this meet the Gauchos will be preparing for the championship part of the season including the Big West Championship and NCAA meets.
"We are grateful for all the contributions to our program that the senior athletes have given us" stated Wilson "and we are looking forward to the exciting conclusion of this years season."
