Texas Invitational Recap

AUSTIN, Texas - Juniors Jen Schwalb and Pat Cary led their team of 18, 9 women and 9 men, by each taking third in the 200 butterfly December 1-3, 2005 at the Texas Invitational held at Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center hosted by the University of Texas.

Pat Cary placed third in the 200 fly with an NCAA consideration time of 1:45.72. That wasn't his only NCAA consideration time of the weekend, he was able to earn one in the 100 fly as well with a time of 48.03.

Schwalb had a time of 2:00.04 in the 200 fly and also swam the 400 IM, taking fifth with a time of 4:20.53. She also placed 12th in the 100 fly, 55.42, and 15th in the 200 IM, 2:04.11, an NCAA consideration time.

Schwalb was an active member of the 400 Medley Relay along with teammates Jessica Cruzat, Katie Freeman, and Jenisse Demeulenaere which placed 10th with a time of 3:47.40. The 800 free relay Schwalb was also a part of took 10th as well with the help of Jessica Cruzat, Jenisse Demeulenaere and Courtney Jenkins.

Cary helped the men take 10th in the 800 free relay along with teammates Robbie Dame, Garrett Porteous and Myles Peck. Another relay taking 10th was the 400 Medley, Cary, Ota, Nilsson, and Dame swimming it in a time of 3:21.17. The 400 free relay placed 14th, 3:06.31, Dame and Peck along with Cary and Pat Ota swimming that race.

Freshman Katie Freeman placed 13th in the 200 breast, 2:17.35, and 17th in the 100 breast with a time of 1:04.30, her fastest 100 time this season. Jessica Cruzat took 10th in the 200 back 1:58.87 and 15th in the 100 back, 57.06.

In the 100 back for the men Pat Ota took 14th with a time of 49.52 and TK Erwin took 22nd with a time of 50.65.Ota also took 16th in the 200 back, 1:51.17. Freshman Chris Good took 15th in that same event, 1:48.85. Brent Nolan placed 20th for the men in longest event of the meet, the 1650 event, 15:55.81.

The Gauchos get a small break to hit the books for finals and then it is back to the competition pool for the UNLV Winter Invitational December 17-19, 2005 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
