SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UCSB was victorious at their first home meet of the season. Plenty of UCSB students, parents and alumni came to cheer on UCSB as they defeated California neighbors, UCSD 172to 84 at Campus pool.
Senior Pat Cary won three individual events and helped his 200 medley team take first place as well. Cary started off the meet with his relay team, Formby, Malcolm and Bauer, finishing almost a full second ahead of UCSD with a time of 1:36.87. Cary continued on to win the 200 fly with a time of 1:48.88, a very good early season swim with only a few seconds off last seasons Big West Conference time. Cary blew away the field in the 100 fly and won it by three seconds with a time of 49.35. With just one event to catch his breath he was back in the water to win the 200 IM with a tie of 1:57.77 just touching out Kelvin Le of UCSD.
Other notable swims of the day were double event winner Myles Peck who won the 200 free, 1:41.67 and the 200 back, 1:53.34.
The Gauchos get a week to recover before Cal Poly comes to town on Saturday November 18, 2006 to swim against the Gauchos at Campus Pool at 11am.
