SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Gauchos won one relay event and three individual events and it was not enough to defeat University of Las Vegas Saturday January 28, 2006 at Campus Pool.
Pat Ota, Blake Nilsson, Pat Cary and Grant Hurst made up the winning 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:32.39. Senior Pat Ota won the 100 back for the Gauchos with a time of 50.15. Senior T.K. Erwin placed second in that event with a time of 52.09. Both seniors were honored with the rest of the graduating Gauchos for their achievements as seniors at this meet.
Junior Pat Cary won the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:49.63. Freshman teammate Chris Good took second in that event with a time of 1:52.35. Good took first in the 200 back, 1:50.64 and second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:56.58. In the IM event Dan Leelachat took third, 1:57.63 and Pat Cary took fourth, 2.00.66. Cary took second in the 100 fly, 49.27 and Pat Ota took fourth in the fly event, 51.23.
Brooks Felton took second in the 1000 free, 9:28.69 and third in the 500 free, 4:38.60. Senior Captain Garrett Porteous took second in the 200 free, 1:41.76, and second in the 500 free, 4:34.94. Senior Grant Hurst took third in the 100 free, 46.28 and fourth in the 200 free, 1:42.14.
The Gauchos will welcome UC Berkeley to Campus Pool on Saturday February 4, 2006 for a non-scoring meet before they prepare for the championship segment of the season starting with the Big West Championship meet February 15-18, 2006 in Long Beach, California.
