STOCKTON, Calif. - UCSB was able to keep up the winning spirit against tough competition at the University of the Pacific on Saturday, January 21, 2006 at Chris Kjeldsen Pool on the campus of the UOP.
Once again UCSB was able to start and finish the meet with victories. The 200 medley relay swam by Pat Ota, Blake Nilsson, Pat Cary and Bradley Matsumoto won with a time of 1:33.06. And ending the meet with a bang, not to mention a victory, was the 400 free relay, Bradley Matsumoto, Scott Lindberg, Robbie Dame and Grant Hurst. What gives the Gauchos confidence in their team for this upcoming year is the fact that they won these same events the day before against UC Davis, but with a different line up.
Pat Ota walked away with two wins in the 100 back and the 100 fly, 50.08 and 50.11, respectively. Teammate Pat Cary who took first in the 200 fly, 1:50.12, and took second to Ota in the 100 fly, 50.49. Garrett Porteous took second in two distance events, the 1000 free and 500 free, 9:31.02 and 4:37.99. He was followed just behind by another great Gaucho distance man Brooks Felton who took third in the 1000 free, 9:32.27 and the 500 free, 4:40.84.
Grant Hurst took first in the 100 free, 46.65 for the second day in a row. Hurst was also second in the 200 free 1:40.47. Freshman Chris Good took first in the 200 back, 1:49.54, second in the 200 fly, 1:54.06 and third in the 200 IM, 1:55.42.
