Gauchos Race Towards Promising MPSF Conference Championships

After an impressive dual meet season and four weeks of winning MPSF male and female athlete of the week, the UCSB Gaucho swimmers are headed to MPSF conference finals this Wednesday, February 15. The team is optimistic for the championships, anticipating some spectacular swims to match the eventful season thus far.

The men's team enters Conference after two dual meet wins against Cal Poly (161-169, 190.5-101.5) , victory against UOP (147-140) and UNLV (173-120), and handing the U.S. Air Force Academy men's team their first loss (148-146). The Gaucho men also took first at A3 invitational, scoring a staggering 2028 points, 900 ahead of the second place finisher.

The women's team matched the men's impressive season, also grabbing two wins against Cal Poly (171-123, 165-129), one against UOP (158-120), and another against UNLV (159.5-126.5).

This season's successes were highlighted by eight individual MPSF swimmer of the week awards, four for the Gaucho women and four for the Gaucho men. The Gauchos swept the awards for the entire month of January, winning three consecutive weeks.

Senior and Team Captain Cheyenne Low took two MPSF swimmer of the week awards, while freshman Heaven Quintana and senior Julia Mikota took one each. Billy Mullis won the honor three times, and Jonathan Panchak snatched the award on February 1.

Watch out this week for the Gaucho swimmers, who are looking forward to a competitive and promising MPSF Championship meet this week at East LA College.
