SANTA BARBARA, Calif.
UCSB Swimmers Billy Mullis and Heaven Quintana have been selected as MPSF swimmers of the week, after leading their team to an impressive win against University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and the U.S. Air Force Academy. This is the second consecutive week, and third time this season that the UCSB Gaucho swimmers have received the honor.
Junior swimmer Billy Mullis rounds off an exciting meet with being selected as MPSF male swimmer of the week for the third time this season. In the Gaucho's three-way split dual meet this past weekend, Mullis took two individual and two relay wins that spearheaded the Gaucho men to victory against UNLV and the previously undefeated U.S. Air Force Academy. Mullis touched first in the 100 yard backstroke (48.32), swam the lead-off leg in the 200 yard medley relay (22.65), and in the 400 yard medley relay (48.78).
As an added highlight to the weekend, Billy broke his own school record in the 200 yard backstroke (1:45.01) without a tech suit, which is unheard of in dual meets. Mullis is currently ranked first all MPSF in the 100 yard backstroke (46.97) and the 100 yard butterfly (47.25).
Freshman swimmer Heaven Quintana was awarded MPSF swimmer of the week after totaling a staggering seven wins over two days against UNLV. Quintana touched first in the 50 yard breaststroke (29.05), 100 yard breaststroke (1:02.17), 200 yard breaststroke (2:18.85), 100 yard butterfly (54.29), 100 yard IM (57.48), winning 200 yard medley relay (28.41 split), and winning 400 yard medley relay (1:01.46 split).
