UCSB Men and Women in Second Place After Day One of A3 Invitational

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara men's and women's swimming teams travelled to East Los Angeles College this week to compete in the A3 Performance Invitational with other top-tier teams. After Day One performances the Gauchos are in second for both the men and women.

The Gaucho women placed third in the 200 freestyle (1:32.51) relay to start off the evening finals program. Senior Lauren Vosseler anchored the second fastest split of the event with a 22.52. 

The Gaucho men followed suit, placing third in the men's heat of the 200 freestyle relay (1:21.78).

Junior transfer Kelsey Leonard swam a season-best 4:55.54 in prelims, and then placed eighth in finals with a 5:00.99.

Freshman Eric Vanbrocklin represented the Gaucho men in the 500 freestyle championship heat, placing sixth with a time of 4:27.84. Freshmen Logan Hotchkiss (4:26.89), Bobby Guerra (4:28.21), and Erik Overstreet (4:34.11) all competed in the consolational finals of the 500 free.

Alyssa Shew placed eighth in the women's 200 IM with a time of 2:04.37. Katie Records won the consolation heat with a 2:03.81.

Gabe Bolender placed seventh in the men's 200 IM with a 1:50.18.

Lauren Vosseler (23.27), Kimmie Kreuzberger (23.63), and Julia Mikota (23.81) represented the Gaucho women in a strong 50 freestyle championship finals heat. Vosseler placed third, Kreuzberger sixth, and Mikota eighth.

The Gaucho men finished the day with a third place finish in the 400 medley relay (3:17.79).

The UCSB women go in to Day Two with 280 points in second place behind UCLA. The men finished with 279 points behind Stanford.
